New EOS - Controlled Temperature, Humidity & Light from Vindon Scientific
Controlled temperature, humidity and now light for large scale shelf life studies and in record time in Vindon’s ‘EOS’ rooms.A project of this nature would normally have had a lead time of 12 to 16 weeks, taking account of the design required to incorporate the additional lighting and its accompanying control system. We designed and built three large dedicated rooms in our controlled environment suite for one of our major pharmaceutical clients - with timings almost unheard of in the pharmaceutical sector.
Starting from scratch on a project like this was never going to be an option as there was insufficient time. We have a very good template and manufacturing framework for building our own equipment so, for this project, we had to adapt our working practices to suit the tight time frames.
Solving technical challenges
This type and size of project tested our project management skills as there were a number of technical and logistical challenges to overcome. Vindon has a unique ability to source equipment and manage subcontractors to manufacture and install all the elements in a stability room. The key to this project was our ability to meet the client’s demanding requirements.
We succeeded by:
- Outsourcing the supply and installation of the insulated room shells.
- Designing the rooms to allow for two larger rooms, 3m high x 4.8m wide x 7.2m long, to be constructed and then divided into four 2.4m wide rooms with an insulated central partition. This construction method provided the most cost- and time-effective solution as opposed to using the traditional method of creating two individual rooms that would have meant increased material costs and more construction time. The room materials were on site within one week of order placement and were fully constructed within three days.
